It is that time of year again, back to school time. For those of us with kids, it is time to make a lot of purchases like new clothes, school supplies, backpacks, etc. Luckily, retailers make it an event and there are a lot of savings going around. Who says that you have to have kids to save though.
Savings Are Not Just For The Kids
If you have no kids, now is still a great time to take advantage of back to school savings. A lot of the supplies and gear that they need for school can also be useful to you. Here are some ways to take advantage of the great sales going on for back to school.
Stock Up On Office Supplies
School supplies are cheaper right now than they will be for the entire rest of the year.
No, you probably do not need a Scooby Doo pencil box but you can stock up on a lot of other stuff. Computer paper, pens, pencils, notebooks, index cards, etc. They are all on sale, so stock up for the year now.
Get Some New Electronics
It is not just the pre-schoolers that are going back to school. You also have high school and college kids. This means that a whole batch of electronics are going on sale.
How is that old printer doing? Now might be a good time to save money on a nice 3 in 1 copy, scan, print.
Computers are also discounted right now as well as anything that could be used in a dorm room. This means televisions, smart devices like Roku and blu ray players.
Spruce Up Your Wardrobe
A lot of states will have tax free days on clothing in an attempt to save families some money. The clothing does not necessarily have to be for a child to qualify for these savings.
In addition, basics like socks and underwear will never be cheaper and it is a great time to replace those holey socks and under garments.
Buy A Backpack
Backpacks are for more than just carrying books. If you need a new pack for hiking or need a new bag for the gym, now is the time to get it. They will be on sale now for prices that won’t break the bank.
Take Care Of Your Feet
If you need a new pair of cross trainers or running shoes, now is a great time to get them. All of those kids headed back to school have worn out their treads over the summer and will be headed to the sporting goods store to re-shoe. The stores will respond with big sales.
Buy Some Athletic Gear
While you are at the sporting goods store looking for shoes, check out some new athletic gear. Not only are students returning to school but student athletes are as well. Get some new soccer shorts, a new baseball glove or stock up on some balls.
Treat Yourself To A New Phone
Those kids going off to college need new cell phones and in addition, there is a whole new batch of pre-teens getting their first phone. This means that phones are going on sale. If you have had your eye on a new Apple or Samsung product, now might be the time to make a move and save 200 dollars or more on the retail price. It might also be a good time to look for a more affordable cell phone plan. Lock in a great rate and score a new phone with back to school savings.
Replace Your Bedding
You can thank all of those new college kids for the sale on sheet and comforters. Now is the time to replace those sheets, pillows and pillow cases in particular. Remember when they were white?
Get Some Basic Furnishings
You are not going to find a leather sectional or arm chair on sale, but you can save on some basic furniture. Think folding chairs, futons, rugs and even mattresses. If you have a guest room that you have been putting off furnishing, now is the time to get it done. Get a futon and an end table for 300 dollars or less and call it a day.
Resupply Your Bathroom
Think about all of the things that college kids need to stock up on, they are going on sale and you probably use them to. Deodorant, toothbrushes, shampoo and even towels and wash clothes.
Stock The Cupboards
The canned veggies might not be on sale but the snacks will. All of those school lunches mean that a lot of individually wrapped tasty treats will be on sale. If they are your thing, load your cart up.
Tina’s Final Word
As you can see, there are a lot of ways to save even if you do not have kids. Just think about anything that a high school or college kid might need. It is probably on sale and if you need it too, you should take advantage.
