If you are on a budget, dating can be a little difficult. You want to go out and show your significant other a good time but at the same time, you do not want to wreck your budget. It is times like these that creativity becomes most important. If you have been racking your brains trying to think of ideas, but have come up blank, I can help.
Here are some great and cheap or even free ideas for a date. Whether you are a broke teenager, millennial on a budget or senior on a fixed income, you should be able to find something to do on this list. Let’s take a look.
Suggesting a picnic is a great idea for several reasons. For starters, it does not make you seem cheap or broke, it makes you seem romantic.
In addition, a picnic is actually a fun way to spend an evening. Who says that an inexpensive date night has to be a boring one. Pack a nice little dinner, a blanket and a few non alcoholic drinks. Cold meals are generally a little easier to keep at the right temperature than hot meals. All it takes is an ice pack.
Locations could range from a city park to the side of a lake to your own front yard. Even better, check the local parks and recreation websites and see if any city is hosting a free concert or movie in the park.
Discount Meals & Events
When you are on a budget, you have to look out for discounts wherever you can. Sign up for eClubs at all of your favorite restaurants and get occasional coupons sent directly to your email. You have to be patient but you will eventually see some deals.
If you want a big discount now, check out promotional events and discounts and save up to 75%. Restaurants and entertainment venues put out promotional specials all the time to attract new customers and you can save big. Living Social is one of the biggest markets for these deals. Many deals can not be used the same day, so shop at least a day in advance.
Go Out For Ice Cream
The cheapest dessert is one of the best. There is something nostalgic about going out for a scoop or even a double scoop. For less than ten dollars, you can get a couple of cones and then go for a walk and try to eat it before it melts.
Home Movie Night
A rental movie, a bag of microwave popcorn and maybe a pizza and you have a nice inexpensive date night.
Save money on the rental by going to the rental Blu Ray kiosk machine. They are usually cheaper than digital rentals. Save even more money by picking up the pizza yourself sparing yourself a hefty tip and delivery charge. Do it all right and you can have a nice night for ten dollars or less.
If there are no good new releases out, do a twist on movie night and make it classic movie night. Raid your old DVD or Bluray collection and pick out one that you haven’t watched in years. It could be a movie that both of you loved or an experience that you want to share.
Go For A Bike Ride
A ride in a city park can be a great inexpensive way to take in the city and kill a few hours. If you do not own a bike, look for a rental store or use one of the pay by the hour bikes available in most cities.
Combine this with another date idea and take a picnic lunch with you. You can stop half way on your route for some refreshments and great conversation.
Go Act Rich
Just because you do not have money to spend does not mean that you can’t act like it.
Go to a luxury car dealership and test drive a luxury SUV or perhaps a sports car. Make it something unreasonable so that you will not be tempted to make a car buying mistake and fill out an actual application.
Next, go look at some model homes in really expensive areas. You can tour the homes and see how the other side lives. You might even get some decorating ideas for your own home.
Follow it all up with a cheap meal at Taco Bell to bring yourself down to earth.
Take In A Free Concert
Check the parks and recreation pages of every city in a ten mile radius and see what is going on. Just because you do not live in a city does not mean that you can leach off of their city budget a bit for an inexpensive date night.
Note what free concerts are coming up and save the date. It does not even matter if you do not like the music. Most concerts will be for things like Jazz, Blues or maybe even Classical Music. The atmosphere at the event will make it fun even if you do not own any of the tunes on your iPhone.
Take A Free Class
Think about all of those fitness and educational programs out there. A lot of them try to lure you in with an intro class that is absolutely free. Take an intro to Karate class, an intro to French cooking or maybe an intro to Pottery class. The sky is the limit. You might have to endure a bit of a sales pitch at the end but hey, it is a free night out.
Tina’s Last Word
Just because you are broke or on a tight budget does not mean that you have to stay home every night. Don’t waste your time feeling sorry for your limited budget, get out there. No, you can not spend 200 dollars on a meal but you can still have a great time with your significant other on an inexpensive date.
